Banff Rugby Club Invites Families To Give Tartan Touch Rugby A Try

By Banff Rugby Club on 16/06/2022

Families are being invited to join Banff Rugby Club for free rugby activity sessions.

Taking place every Saturday from 11am – 12pm until the end of August at Duff House in Banff, the Tartan Touch sessions offer an opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to try rugby.

Activities are based on touch, tag and walking rugby, with no contact between players, providing assurance of safety and no barriers regarding age, ability or fitness levels for those considering taking part.  No previous rugby experience is required to join in, and participants can attend as many sessions as they wish.

The initiative comes following the new partnership between Scottish Rugby and Papa John’s, which was launched in February 2022.  The pizza delivery brand is proudly working to support rugby communities in Scotland through the Papa John’s Tartan Touch.

Director of Rugby at Banff Rugby Club, Andy Smith, commented, “Our goal is to bring our rugby family into the Banff, Macduff and surrounding communities to get people involved in playing rugby, getting some exercise and making new friends.  We have player buddies to help and guide participants through the relaxed and fun sessions, so all ages and abilities are welcome to come along and take part, they are real family activity sessions.”

Outdoor clothing and suitable footwear are recommended. The clubhouse is open during the sessions for refreshments.

More information is available on the Banff Rugby Club Facebook page, or by contacting Andy Smith at or 07779 759 991.

Regular training sessions at the Banff based club are open to anyone to join, with seniors training on Tuesday and Thursday evenings 7pm-8.30pm, and youths training on Thursday evenings 6pm-7.30pm.  On Saturdays, pre-school sessions run from 10.30am-11am, followed by primary school sessions from 11am-12.30pm.
